The history of the floor jack, also known as a hydraulic jack, can be traced back to the early 19th century. When the principles of hydraulic engineering were first being developed. The first hydraulic jacks were large and heavy and were used primarily in industrial settings to lift and move heavy loads.
In the early 20th century, manufacturers began to develop smaller, more portable floor jacks for use in automotive repair and maintenance. These jacks were designed to be used on the floor of a garage or repair shop, hence the name “floor jack.” They used a hydraulic system to lift the vehicle and were much easier to use than the large, industrial jacks.
